kefir and body type / consitution

Postby brownpenny » Fri Nov 13, 2009 3:57 am

Greetings Rebecca,

I wonder if you have any opinion about whether certain body types / constitutions should avoid kefir (or dairy in general).

I'm a slow-moving, cold-extremity, easy-to-gain weight (but not overweight), healthy 31-year old female. Since I tend to be cold and sluggish, Ayurveda (for instance) would tell me to run the other way from dairy, but I'm interested in kefir for the calcium / b-vitamin / folate / protein benefits (toward a pre-conception diet) and for the flora regulation (to counteract some heavy antibiotics i took earlier this year).

As far as my typical dairy consumption, I currently don't use a lot. I react badly (gassy) to generic grocery store milk, but am happy and symptom free with unhomogenized, grass-fed organic milk (raw when I can).

I understand that your school of thought may not have the same restrictions as some others I've encountered. I am eager to learn your valued opinion and good sense.

Best wishes.

The best way to find out is to try it and see how you handle kefir.

It is delicious. However, whether dairy is fermented or not, comes from grass fed animals, cow or sheep or whether or not it is unpasteurized, I find that few people today can easily assimilate it.
May you be well nourished,
Rebecca
