Deli Turkey
A Case Against Deli Turkey
A common complaint I hear from many home cooks is that they’ve an aversion to cutting raw meat. Therefore, they frequently buy deli meats.
I’ve several concerns about deli meats. One, their inordinately long shelf life gives me the creeps. Also, the cost per pound of sliced turkey breast is comparable to a sirloin steak. The real problem, however, is that they don't provide the energy or satisfaction of freshly cooked food.
This guarantees snacking. Eat mediocre foods and a few hours later you’re unwrapping a chocolate bar or scooping into the ice cream. Sound familiar?
To increase your energy, bypass prepared foods. Not to worry if you prefer not prepping raw meat. Simply give chicken pieces a rinse, put in a pot and make soup. Or sprinkle salt and pepper on drumsticks and bake at 350 degree until they're golden (about 1 hour for turkey drumsticks, 40 minutes for chicken).
Then do a taste test. Compare your dining pleasure and feeling of satiety with these crispy, golden and aromatic drumsticks to packaged turkey from the deli. Proceed accordingly; and, “Hello!” increased energy!
May you be well nourished!
