Mom's Specialty was Mac and Cheese
Accompanying recipe: Warm Red Cabbage and Green Bean Salad
So you're inspired to build your energy and health; and that means more home cooking. But, here's the catch. Mom didn't teach you how to cook and so pots and pans intimidate you.
Not to worry, I've got solutions. But first, it's important that you acknowledge the terrain. You're embedded in a culture that denigrates daily cooking as drudgery and extols ready-made foods. Besides that, you're busy.
Free yourself from this predicament. Go against the mainstream and learn enough basic recipes to be, hereafter, well nourished. You'll find many practical steps and healthy recipes for doing so posted on this web site.
Another aid is to sign up for a cooking class at your natural food store. Shun classes based on fads. Also, avoid classes with a fussy, gourmet focus.
TV cooking programs won't do it. They're too disembodied. Let's face it, you're looking for a home-cooking surrogate-mother who will, kinesthetically, help you enjoy a balanced diet that will delight and nourish you for the rest of your life.
Therefore, take basic classes taught by a home cook who is passionate and knowledgeable about food and health. You'll find that watching such a person--and then tasting the foods he or she makes--will inspire and inform you in important ways.
Befriend a few recipes and techniques...then, invite mom over for a bowl of soup.
May you be well nourished!
