Healing with Food Update
Genetically Modified Foods
Despite the real scares that Genetically Modified (GM) foods place on our individual and collective health, you, as an informed consumer have options. First, take a few minutes to empower yourself with a basic understanding of GM foods and their consequences. Second, support your well being with non-GM food choices. By definition and regulation, organic foods are GM-free. Indeed, nourishing yourself well is a proactive step in caring for our global health.
Since 1996 most of our processed foods have included GM ingredients. Today the primary GM crops are soy, cotton, canola, corn and Hawaiian papaya. However, dairy products, many food additives and NutraSweet contain genetically modified organisms. It’s a given, that they also taint any meat, egg or dairy product from animals that have eaten GM feed.
Children are most at risk from the dangers of GM foods; however, GM consumption damages virtually every organ and has been linked to thousands of toxic and allergic reactions in humans as well as to thousands of sick, sterile, and dead livestock.
Here’s a shoppers guide to foods free of GM ingredients. But, even easier than learning countless—and ever changing—brands and products, favor organic producers and enjoy more from scratch cooking.
May you be well nourished!
